CFR CREDIT CLOSE: Thursday Frenzy: $32.9bn From 19 Deals

IGC European Market: Commentary - GeneralIGC European Market: Commentary - CloseIGC US Market: Commentary - GeneralIGC US Market: Commentary - Close

After Wednesday’s five deals priced with solid demand, we expected a backlog of issuers from earlier in the week to emerge. That dynamic played out as a flurry of 19 issuers came to the market today for $32.9bn. The 19 deals ties with Jan 6 for the second-largest deal day of the year, and today now stands as the largest Thursday deal-day on record, surpassing the prior record set on Thursday, March 26, 2020 during the COVID era, when 18 deals priced.

Today’s $32.9bn print provided a significant boost to weekly volume, bringing issuance up to $51.550bn, and within 21% of the average weekly estimate. With no new marketings remaining in the pipeline, and with the jobs report due tomorrow morning alongside a softer market tone, the primary calendar is likely finished for the week. We did, however, hear of at least one stand-down this morning.

Baker Hughes held investor calls yesterday, looking to fund its pending $13.6bn acquisition of Chart Industries in dual currencies. The company ultimately priced a $6.5bn six-part USD offering alongside a €3bn four-part EUR deal. Baker Hughes’ $6.5bn contribution, combined with $8.5bn from Eaton and $6.8bn from FIS, brings this week’s M&A-related issuance to $21.8bn. That figure slightly exceeds last week’s $21.3bn total ($20bn from Abbott and $1.3bn from Jacobs) and marks the largest M&A-driven supply week since the week ending 3/7/25.
